Letter 5
Dear Dr. Martin,
I am writing you to describe the condition of my daughter Kaitlin and the improvements we have seen since we sought the services of Dr. Miller.
This year Kaitlin started kindergarten in Diane Wheelers class at Capshaw. We felt she was having trouble keeping up with the other children and her teacher agreed. Kaitlin had trouble concentrating and her attention span was very short. She was Unable to memorize her letter of the week, color inside of lines, write letters in proper proportion, or even recognize letters. You could show her a letter or word and literally two minutes latter she could not recognize it.
Kaitlin has wore glasses for far sitedness since age three. We thought her prescription might of changed possibly causing her problems so we took her to Dr. Miller for an examination. He told us her problem was Intermittent Central Suppression and that there was therapy for it. We were all concerned that Kaitlin, only turning five in August, was too young for contacts and the blinking glasses.
After we received her first report card Ms. Wheeler cautioned us that Kaitlin may need to repeat kindergarten. At this point all of our efforts had failed and the visual therapy was the next step in her treatment. She received her first contacts on October 31st. We all were surprised at how well she adapted to the contacts. About three weeks later we began the blinking glasses at home for one hour a day.

Within the first week we noticed improvement in her attention span, the second week she began recognizing short words on flashcards and could remember them from day to day. Shortly after she began using the blinking glasses she received her mid gradiiig period report. Ms. Wheeler commented that Kaitlin was improving in all areas. She used the blinking glasses for about six weeks. Kaitlin is now able to complete her Saxon Phonics Word List with minimal assistance where as previously she was unable to with much help. This week when she returns to school she will be returning nine Word Lists a total of 104 words she previously could not read. Her handwriting has dramatically improved along with all of her other problems. She is about to begin using reading glasses with lines to further adjust her eyes into there proper alignment.
The results so far are well worth the cost and time invested for her future. Thank God for blessing us with the funds for her treatment, but it would have been beneficial for some assistance considering this therapy isn't covered by our insurance. If she could have received the treatment a couple of times a week at school from a trained aide it would have freed up some family time in the evenings.
We believe this treatment to be very beneficial judging it upon the improvements seen in Kaitlin during this short time of one and a half months. We have known Dr. Miller for about twenty years as our family eye doctor and find him to be a caring, honest, and competent physician,
Sincerely,
Brian and Karen C.
