Letter 2

January 31, 2003

To Whom It May Concern,

We are the parents of a lst grade student, Patti Adrian Gaw.  After attending school for several weeks, we were asked to meet with his teacher.  She described a problem he was having with reading and the ability to put three sounds together.  His handwriting was also very large.  She said she could not tell if he could help it or not.  After hearing this, we consulted with a friend who is a reading instructor at Tennessee Technological University.  She advised us to have his hearing and vision tested.  We did both.  His hearing was perfect, but his vision was not.  We took him to Dr. James E. Miller who determined that Paul had Intermittent Central Suppression of binocular vision (ICS).  After speaking with others, who had participated In Dr. Miller's therapy program, we decided to try it.

As of today, we have seen a miraculous improvement In Patti's reading and handwriting as well as successes in other areas of his schooling.  We attribute that success to the efforts of Dr. James Miller and Ted Haselton's treatment program.

We strongly recommend that grant money be appropriated to these gentlemen so that other children can have the opportunity to be successful in the classroom.  As President Bush's program states that 'no child be left behind,' we feel that this a way to ensure that no child is left behind. Thank you for your consideration of these gentlemen's request.

Sincerely,

Mark & Sherry G.
